The Characteristics of the New Music Curriculums Standards in Primary
and Middle School in Chinese Mainland and the Condition of its Implementation
Abstract: The new music curriculum reform in primary and middle school in Chinese mainland, which began in 2001 and lasts to 2010, with its grand scale and new theories in all-rounded dimensions, surely will play an important role in the developmental history of school music education. One of its most important achievements is its formulation and implementation of the new Music Curriculum Standard. Now, it has been 8 years since the very beginning, and it is worth of summing up, e.g., what are its characteristics, how do people evaluate it, how are the condition of its implementation and its effects. There should be successful experience as well as dimensions needing to be improved. To make an objective and impartial judgment will bring benefit to the further improvement of the music curriculum reform and the healthy development of music education.
